Premier League week 21 preview

Another week of Premier League football is here and there are big matches to look forward to, along with a few interesting underdogs to look at.

Bournemouth (+108) vs West Ham United (+270)

From a betting point of view this looks like a really interesting game. West Ham are a better team than their opponents in every category and yet they’re the underdogs. The return of talisman Dimitri Payet will be a big boost for the Hammers and although Bournemouth have been doing well the last few weeks, I just don’t see them keeping it up. I can see a few goals coming in this match as well so it should be a good watch for neutrals. West Ham to win 1-2

Aston Villa (+213) vs Crystal Palace (+143)

Aston Villa are in real danger of dropping to the second division and they absolutely need to get the win at home this weekend. Unfortunately for them they have to face one of the toughest teams to beat. Palace have two excellent wingers in Yannick Bolasie and Wilf Zaha and central midfielder Yohan Cabaye is excellent at finding their runs and they could grab a few goals at Villa Park. I see Palace winning 1-3.

Newastle United (+385) vs Manchester United (-127)

After a run of 8 games without a win Manchester United have now won two in a row, albeit in unconvincing fashion. Looking at this fixture you have a team with excellent individual players thay just can’t seem to flow offensively coming up against a team that quite frankly just lacks balls. The latter, Newcastle, have been abismal all season and seem to have not learned from their mistakes from last season. They have decent players like Georginio Wjanldum but they just don’t seem to try other than against the top teams in the league. They managed a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford again Manchester United earlier this season and if they defend decently they could even sneak a win on the counter attack. However I don’t see that happening and I predict a 2-1 win for Manchester United.

Liverpool (+190) vs Arsenal (+145)

This is going to be an interesting match as it should give us a realistic idea of how good Liverpool are compared to the top teams in the Premier League. The Reds are having a bit of trouble these days but head to heads with rivals generally dump form out the window. Arsenal are one of the top teams in the league this season and three points at Anfield would be a real boost to their title hopes. I’m not sure they’ll manage that though so I’m going to go with a 1-1 draw but I could easily see a win for both sides.

Swansea City (-135) vs Sunderland (+425)

Swansea have been underperforming this season but their fans should be optimistic about this weekend’s match against bottom dwellers Sunderland. The latter are a side that always seem destined for relegation and yet, here they are. Their form has been piss poor all season long and they just seem like they have no chance of beating anyone. Swansea should have a comfortable match and I expect them to win 2-0

Chelsea (-233) vs West Bromwich Albion (+733)

Since Guus Hiddink took over as Chelsea manager the Blues have been performing much better. They still have holes in their game but the overall flow of play has greatly improved, with players like Oscar and Diego Costa finding form. West Brom on the other hand haven’t been all that great this season and I can’t see them getting a positive result at Stamford Bridge against a seemingly revitalized Chelsea. I think that Chelsea will win 2-0

Manchester City (-190) vs Everton (+500)

Talent-wise nobody in the Premier League can match Manchester City but at the same time no team can match City’s ability to drop points when they should get the win. Everton are exactly the kind of team that City struggle against. They’re strong physically and they play with a lot of heart. Their main man Romelu Lukatu is an absolute beast and if Everton can defend well, I see them getting at least a draw here. I’m going with a 2-2 draw.

Southampton (-112) vs Watford (+345)

Southampton are one of those teams that have it all. They have a target man (Graziano Pellè), they have a speedy winger (Sadio Mane) and they have a solid centre back (Jose Fonte). Basically they are solid everywhere and they are always tough to break down. Their opponents, Watford, aren’t quite so solid. They have some quality moving forward but their defence is rather poor and that’s never a good trait to have. There’s no way they’re going to beat the Saints at Saint Mary’s so I’m going with a 2-0 win for Southampton.

Stoke City (-105) vs Norwich City (+315)

Just like every other week I find myself shivering at the thought of puting money on a Stoke game. They are the most unpredictable team in any sport by a mile and they are coming up against a team that can score 2 against you but concede twice that. Their defence is garbage and coming up against Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic I just can’t see them keeping a clean sheet. Thus, I have no choice but to go with a 3-1 win for Stoke. Now watch, they’ll go and lose horribly.

Tottenham Hotspur (-140) vs Leicester City (+400)

This is another top quality game between two teams that can realistically aim for the top three. Tottenham have been excellent so far and are looking like a real title threat in the near future. Leicester have been the biggest surprise that I can remember ever seeing in the Premier League. They have been at the top of the table all season long and they look likely to finish at the very least in the Europa League spots. Everybody predicted them to be relegated so to see them performing like this is shocking. This should be an amazing game and I think there’ll be a few goals in it. I’m going to go with a 2-1 win for Spurs.

That’s all for this week’s Premier League preview. Enjoy the matches and good luck to anyone betting.
